Welcome to Panto Your Wigwam!

If you’ve been here before then welcome back partner. If this is your first visit then welcome to Deadgood Gulch.

In the good ol’ days, Deadgood used to be a mining town. What did the miners used to mine I hear you ask? Gold! There was gold in them thar hills, but that ran out years ago. Now it’s home to the West family, Kitty and her son and daughter. But things are not all peaceful and tranquil. The evil bank manageress, Mistress Lucre, is determined that Deadgood will belong to her and thinks she has the plan to make it happen.

Can the Wests win? There’s only one way to find out.

What is it?

Panto Your Wigwam is a two-act pantomime, each act having five scenes each.

The scope of the play is designed specifically with amateur groups in mind and has various features that AmDram groups will appreciate:

  • The cast consists of only 10 main characters, plus a pantomime cow of course. Auxiliary parts such as the dancers and cows can be doubled up.
  • Chorus members can join in as cowboys or indians depending on how much they’d like to be on stage and particpate in songs.
  • It’s possible to have an almost totally male or female cast with the split between male and female ranging from 8M/2F to 7F/3M.
  • The running time has been kept to a reasonable length because younger children won’t sit still for hours on end and won’t respond well to being kept up too late either. Running time is somewhere between 2 hours and 2 hours 15 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.
  • The script is story driven and takes a fresh look at a rarely used genre for pantomimes whilst keeping the most important traditional elements. Oh yes we do!

What’s it all about?

The peaceful town of Deadgood Gulch is about to be shaken up by the plotting and scheming of the devious bank manageress, Mistress Lucre. She wants to own the whole town, even the “best saloon in town” which is owned by Kitty West.

When Kitty’s cows start to go missing she turns to the Sheriff, Rusty Rogers, and his nephew to find out what’s going on. But catching the cattle rustlers isn’t the end of the problems. Can Indian mystic ‘Head in Clouds’ help save the day?

Productions

Panto Your Wigwam was first produced and performed by Pyrford Little Theatre on January 23rd/24th and 30th/31st 2009 at the Village Hall in Pyrford.

An enthusiastic and dedicated cast and crew worked for almost three months to prepare for the show. Many people put a lot of time and effort into the show and the writers/producers of the show would like to thank each and every one of them. Panto Your Wigwam wouldn’t have been the same without you.
